Dr. Lies Pauwels

Biography

Dr. Elisabeth Pauwels practices at the Aalst and Ninove campuses. She has particular expertise in female and functional urology, combining a broad general urological practice with specialized care for patients with incontinence, pelvic floor disorders, and functional bladder issues.

She studied medicine at the Limburgs Universitair Centrum and the University of Antwerp, graduating as a physician in 2002. During her training, she conducted scientific research into bladder function in incontinence under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Jean-Jacques Wyndaele.

Her urology residency included a doctoral program and training periods at the Antwerp University Hospital, AZ Jan Palfijn Merksem, Ziekenhuis Oost-Limburg in Genk, and AZ Sint-Jan Brugge. In 2010, she completed an additional residency in robotic surgery and laparoscopy at the OLV Hospital in Aalst.

From 2011 to 2015, Dr. Pauwels worked as a urologist at ZNA Stuivenberg, where she also served as Head of the Urology Department starting in 2013. She has been affiliated with AZORG since 2015.

Dr. Pauwels has particular expertise in female and functional urology, including urinary incontinence, overactive bladder, neuro-urology, pelvic floor dysfunction, and urogynecological conditions. She has a specific specialization in sacral neuromodulation for voiding disorders.

In addition to her clinical work, she is actively involved in the education and training of physicians and nurses. She has delivered numerous lectures on functional urology, female urology, and pelvic floor issues, and has published several scientific articles in international journals regarding bladder function, urodynamics, and incontinence research.

She regularly attends national and international conferences held by organizations such as the European Association of Urology (EAU), the Belgian Association of Urology (BAU), and the International Continence Society (ICS), ensuring that she translates the latest scientific insights into daily patient care.
