Information for international patients
Don't have Belgian health insurance, but want a consultation or treatment at Urology Group Aalst? We'll take care of the correct administrative process — provided you arrange the right documents in advance.
Check with your health insurer first
Always contact your health insurer before your treatment. Ask whether care abroad is reimbursed, and if not, submit a request for a foreign care allowance in advance. For hospitalizations, the process runs through AZORG. Provide the admission confirmation in good time.
Patients with Dutch health insurance
For hospitalizations, AZORG works directly with several Dutch health insurers. For consultations and outpatient examinations, you will receive your invoice from Urology Group Aalst.
With an agreement
Health insurers such as DVM or a.s.r. that reimburse your care abroad under an agreement with a Belgian hospital.
Bring along
- Insurance card
- ID
- Referral letter
- Policy number
Hospitalization costs are settled directly
Without an agreement
Other health insurers? Then you can use the EU S1 form or the European Health Insurance Card.
bring along
- ID
- Referral letter / order letter
- EU form or EHIC
Deposit required, you'll receive the balance at home
Note: Not all care is fully reimbursed
Without the correct documents, you'll pay upfront at the non-resident rate. Our doctors are not under agreement with the health insurance funds — fee supplements are your own cost.
Patients from other EU countries
Do you live in another EU member state (outside the Netherlands)? For planned care, you'll use an EU S1 form — this way costs are settled directly with your national insurance.
Which documents do you need?
Your ID (eID or passport)
The S2 form — request this in advance from your national health insurance
Without an S1 form, you will need to pay yourself and submit a reimbursement claim to your insurer.
Patients from countries outside the EU
For patients from outside the EU, we work with a fixed contribution — a Guaranty of Payment (GOP) — issued by your private insurer. Without a valid GOP, you pay the non-resident rate upfront.
Documents
Your ID (eID or passport)
A valid Guaranty of Payment (GOP)
Hand in the GOP at the AZORG admissions department
A valid GOP
- Addressed to AZORG (where the procedure takes place)
- Correct duration of the admission
- In Dutch, French, German, or English
- 100% coverage (in percentage)
- With a billing address for postal mail
Despite a valid GOP, you pay
Even with a valid Guaranty of Payment, you remain ultimately responsible for the invoice. Reminders are sent to you, not to the billing address. Follow up with your insurer yourself until the invoice is paid.
Request your medical records yourself from your treating urologist
For GDPR reasons, our administrative departments do not have access to medical records, not even via informed consent.
EU employees and their dependents
Do you work for an EU institution, or are you a dependent of an EU employee? Ask your employer for a guarantee statement before your treatment. This allows costs to be settled directly through your EU insurance.
Documents
Your ID (eID or passport)
Guarantee statement from the EU for your admission or consultation
Without a guarantee statement, you pay at the non-resident rate.
International students
Are you studying or temporarily in Belgium but insured elsewhere? The documents you need depend on where you're from.
EU + EEA + Switzerland
Insured in an EU member state, Iceland, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, or Australia?
bring along
Your ID (eID or passport)
Other countries
Insured outside the countries listed above? Then you'll need a separate guarantee statement.
bring along
Your ID (eID or passport)
With an EHIC, a deposit is required. Without a guarantee statement, you pay all costs upfront.
Without legal residency or a specific insurance status
Do you have no specific insurance status? In that case, you'll need to arrange things directly with the responsible body — such as the OCMW/CPAS, the Red Cross, Fedasil, or another organization providing access to care.
Documents
Your ID (eID or passport)
Guarantee statement from the OCMW/CPAS, the Red Cross, Fedasil, or another competent body
Without a valid payment commitment, we cannot schedule your care in advance — please contact us in that case
